JOIN returns to the NYIGF!

JOIN returns to the New York International Gift Fair January 29 - February 2, 2012 with new work from eight emerging Northwest studios. For its fourth booth, JOIN is proud to present Blk Pine Workshop, Fleet Objects, fruitsuper design, Grain, Iacoli & McAllister, Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, plainMADE, and R&L Goods.

Among the new work featured will be modular ceramic tableware, lighting, and jewelry by Zoe Garred of the Vancouver-based studio Fleet Objects. Ladies & Gentlemen Studio will have new trays, salt and pepper shakers, candlesticks, and jewelry all made in Seattle. Portland-based textile designer Chelsea Heffner of plainMADE will show scarves, pouches, and totes of newly developed brightly colored prints.

Blanc Rocks Seattle!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Seattle for making the Blanc pop up a success!

We had a great time this week and were so inspired by people's enthusiasm about design! With this and the Object opening a week earlier, we're feeling some serious momentum for Design in the Northwest. So exciting!

Here's a little summary of the weekend:

It all started Friday with a preview party at Sole Repair:

Saturday, we braved the wintery elements opening the big garage door at Caffe Vita's Bean Room for the Blanc pop up. Using bags of coffee beans, discarded pallettes and crates Jean led the crew of willing volunteers in merchandising a beautiful display of Blanc and non-Blanc design items.

The crowd was consistent and diverse from JOIN followers to coffee-sipping walk-ins. By the successful end of the first day, we knew there was no other option than to extend the hours three more hours on Saturday and open up again on Sunday!

By the end of the weekend it was resounding clear: Seattle is ready to embrace design more than ever! We say this is the turning point!! High fives all around!

JOIN at NYIGF Aug 13-18th

Join is excited to combine forces with the American Design Club and “A+: The Young Designers’ Platform” to assemble a new section at the August NYIGF (nyigf.com) dedicated to emerging design. Eight northwest studios will show their latest and greatest goods at this third appearance at the Gift Fair for JOIN.

The exhibition will include canvas, wool, and nylon bags from Blk Pine Workshop; a printed almanac from Free Time Industries; silicone jewelry from fruitsuper design, textile wrapped mirrors, shower curtains, jewelry, and greeting cards from Grain; bottle openers, paper weights, lighting, and jewelry from Iacoli & McAllister; serving utensils, cake servers, salt and pepper shakers, and piggy banks from Ladies & Gentlemen Studio; silk screened scarves, knitted wraps, and blankets from plainMADE; and printed linen scarves, recycled leather billfolds, card cases, and printed notebooks from R&L Goods.
